New fabric sculptures displayed at the Big Bend Contemporary Gallery in Tallahassee. The summer is a great time to experiment with new ideas and the First Friday event brings a big crowd which is great for feedback on new work. This group of work is comprised of small bundles of my own clothes. I am working with the idea that my clothes are the "material" witnesses of my experiences during a specific period time. When grouped together they recreate a place in time for me. Similar to the found family photos it's another form of mapping a memory using a representation of an experience. It's a work in progress and I got some great conversations from people who attended the open which is truly a gift.

hmmmm...reading here that these little packages are the artist's actual clothes, presented as memory markers, triggered my own sense of attachment to the recognition of patterns and colors on clothing that I associate any memory with. Suddenly my indifferent curiosity about a self referential piece was transformed into interest for me ....
Just like a smell or a taste from the past, the tiniest scrap of patterned cloth that I recognize from MY experiences can catapault me into a veritable landslide of recollection. Ah HA! Even seeng other people's fabrics that I can recognize, so its not just personal...why do we do this??
